LIC Jazz Alliance Jam Session continues through November!

Greetings, jazz fans! We’re still at LIC Bar doing the jam session, Tuesdays through November and possibly beyond, provided that the owner of LIC Bar wants to continue the series.

It’s been a wonderful jam session. Many, many musicians have come to play and also listen with the audience that fills the seats of LIC Bar. There’s lots of socializing and great tunes being heard. On Tuesday, November 16, there will even be a birthday party (with cake!) for two members of LICJA, Njekwa Beasnael and Ana Menezes. Gareth continues to work the bar with aplomb and grace. (Personally, I love that he knows what I drink, and has it poured for me between my entering the bar and saying hello. There’s something sweet about that.)

We really do have a wonderful time on Tuesdays at the jam session, 3+ hours of continuous music (no set breaks to be had), lots of smiling faces, really good times.

LIC Bar is located at 45-58 Vernon Blvd in Long Island City. The session runs Tuesdays, 8-11:30 p.m. No cover charge, one drink minimum.

A Weekly Jazz Jam Session in Long Island City begins Tuesday, October 12!

Greetings, jazz fans and neighbors! We have TWO WEEKS to build up a jam session at the local watering hole known as LIC Bar, and if it goes well, we’ll be there every Tuesday. We’ll be playing music from 8 to 11 p.m., with $3 Miller Hi-Life Bottles to drink and a big box of FREE CDs to take home with you! Come and play so we can make this a weekly happening!

The first two weeks (October 12 and 19) will be hosted by guitarist Amanda Monaco and her trio. They’ll play a few tunes before opening up the bandstand to whoever comes out to play. It’s going to be a great time!

LIC Bar is located at 45-58 Vernon Blvd (corner of 46 Avenue), Long Island City NY. 7 to Vernon-Jackson, G to 21 St/Van Alst, or E/M to 23 St/Ely.

First concert!

The LICJA is excited to be presenting our first concert as a collective in our own backyard! (or should we say, our shoreline…) “Live at the Gantries” is a summer festival that takes place on the waterfront in Gantry Plaza State Park. With the Manhattan Skyline as a backdrop, the BBCM (Blanco/Brendler/Coleman/Monaco) Quartet will be performing on June 13th at 7pm, and other members will be on hand to answer questions about the organization and how you can be a part of it!

Personnel:
Amanda Monaco – guitar
Steve Blanco – piano
Peter Brendler – bass
Christian Coleman – drums

Before the Gantries kick-off, be sure to mosey on down to LIC Bar (a mere five blocks away) for some swingin’ backyard jazz with neighbor/trombonist/ukeleleist (ukeleleist?) J. Walter Hawkes! He’ll be playing at 5 p.m.
